Most of the files at that link are marked with a padlock icon with the statement "Files marked with [padlock] are not available for download."

I am using the latest Chrome and Firefox browsers and Win 10. This but one of thousands of uploads that are 'locked.'

What browser are you using and what os. And does your profile have special privileges for downloading such mp3s?

So how come you can play them and I cannot? Whatever - these thousands of uploads are swamping search results. If they are not supposed to be accessible why are they there in the first place? They need to be filtered from search results and/or hidden. CJB.

So why are these thousands of unavailable uploads allowed to swamp search results? They make the Archive unfriendly and searching a damned waste of time. I need to escalate this issue. CJB

Files are probably locked due to copyright issues, especially if you're in the U.S.. Only a few older (pre-1960) BBC programs have been allowed on IA for Americans to hear. Episodes of the Goon Show, Larks, Men From the Ministry, and a few panel shows have disappeared from Old Time Radio.

I'm in the UK. The issue is that when a search is done these uploads swamp the results. They are a waste of space - literally on the servers - since no-one can actually play or download the files. Why are they there?

I'm seeing a lot of poorly-transcribed 'transcripts' of the programs, such as "Charlotte Bronte - The Professor : BBC Radio 4 Extra : August 12, 2016 02:30PM-02:45PM BST". Maybe that's why they're still up, as some sort of ersatz cultural exchange. Regardless, they're still under copyright in the UK and US, unless it falls under the same legal domain as the one-minute excerpts and transcripts of international news programs currently in the television news section, Newswatch, i.e.:. https://archive.org/details/BBCNEWS_20180511_184500_Newswatch
